Appointment: Original watercolor. Spider phaeton with pair of horses. Artist: Max Klepper Condition: Excellent Size: 14 x 20 inches
Max Francis Klepper (1861 – 1907) was an American illustrator who specialized in drawing horses in a variety of disciplines. I am proud to offer an original watercolor by this highly respected American artist.
Prior to purchasing the piece, I hired an art consultant to review it, to determine the authenticity and raise my knowledge. I learned the following things:
• It is a watercolor that is heightened with white gouache on paper • The signature has faded some, but clearly readable and present • It is a well done piece, with good detail in the brushwork • Presents very well
On the back of the watercolor, I discovered some pencil writing that provided more history. These are 2 famous horses by the names “Lord Brilliant & Lord Golden” The back also includes other pencil marks that I am not able to make out. During the reframing process, I had a piece of plexi-glass put on the back with a window that shows the pencil markings.
I discovered that these horse were owned and exhibited by Dr. John L. Wentz and were successful in the show ring showing against people such as W.H. “Judge” Moore.
The watercolor measures 20 x 14 inches and is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. With the frame, the measurement is 28 x 22 inches.

The piece is sure to meet all your expectations.
